Solenoids are the gatekeeper of voltage on your golf cart. Think of the batteries as cows in a pin, you can only let so many of them into the barn at once, or you will cause a problem. This is what your solenoid does for you with the power it takes to run your golf cart. Your battery pack can deliver over a thousand amps of power at one time. That would smoke your controller, motor, and all the cables in-between. The solenoid makes sure that only a given amount of energy, in this case, a continuous rating of 200 amps, makes it to any other drive component of the golf cart. That's why you'll find Buggies Unlimited is well stocked with 36-Volt High-AM Solenoids for golf carts.
These high amp aftermarket replacement solenoids have double-breaking primary contacts; this comes coupled with silver alloy contact tips, which are incredibly high heat resistant, hard-wearing, and provide excellent conductivity. The current rating comes in at 200 Amps. We know you have heard the technical terms for solenoids "thrown" around, so here they are for this unit; it is a single-pole, single-throw, normally open contactor. Meaning no power passes through it until it's energized. Get an aftermarket Curtis 36-volt high-amp solenoid from Buggies Unlimited, and the SW180 bracket will already be attached! Get it shipped now.
Hi Donald, if you purchase this solenoid and then call in to our technicians, they should be able to send over the wiring diagrams.
Yes you can use it as a standard application as it is a higher amp and durability. It would also be a must have if your going to upgrade your system as a contdoller,f&r switch and cylinoid and 2guage wires for the batterys are a must for an upgrade if you plan on that in the future. But as your question you can always up grade a part to heavy duty at any time. I hope this answeres your question
I also am going to change my 36 v Ds car over to 48 v I have already bought the charger. Once my 6v batteries are done I will replace with 8v new input for charger and Replace the solenoid ( this is what I have been told through several sources ). Also need to purchase a 16 to 12 volt resistor to run lights ect.
I have mine installed with a 500 amp Curtis controller and it works great.
I don’t know that there is a video. But it’s really not that difficult. Also, I think the kind of cart and set up you have may make a difference. What kind of car do you have, how many volts, what kind of controller do you have?
