Not much adjusting you can do to these carbs that makes much difference at least. If its an older carb give it a bath with some carb cleaner and clean it out good. Typically I find that backfiring thru the carb is caused by a valve adjustment issue.
I would check the spark plug or replace it to start with, but mine would backfire sometimes when you try to take off or when you let off the gas it would backfire I replaced it with one of the buggies unlimited carburetors and I don’t believe it’s around that good . Hope this helps you, sir.
